Athol, MA Shade Tree Commission

Mission Statement Adopted and Approved April29,2009
The Shade Tree Commission will:
A. Oversee a town wide, public and private, tree planting program.
B. Encourage the participation of all residents, by planting a tree for each winning applicant,chosen by lottery, at an agreed upon site deemed appropriate by the Commisssion.
C. Promote the planting and care of trees native to our area, considering recommendations of the town tree warden, local nursery people and arborists.
D. solicit donations from individual and private companies, as well as apply for grants in order to build a Shade Tree Commission Fund to finance further purchases of trees.
E.Promote public awareness of the benefit of shade trees in our community.

In summary, the efforts of the Athol Shade Tree Commisssion hope to add spring blossoms,summer shade, fall color, and winter snow colvered beauty, not forgetting food and homes for our wildlife, for our beloved local landscape.
