ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Brush Burning: Your Brookfield Fire Department announces that, starting January 15, permits for the outdoor burning of brush and forestry debris will be available. Permits will be issued until April 30. With this permit, you can only burn brush and forestry debris. The burning of leaves, tires, trash, stumps or building materials is prohibited and may result in the suspension of burning for the rest of the season or even fines. Burning is only allowed between the hours of 10am and 4pm. These regulations are set by the state and are not subject to local control. (310 CMR 7.07)
To obtain a permit call the dispatch office at 508-867-1066 between the hours of 7:30am and 12 Noon on the day you want to burn. The dispatcher will take some information and issue you a permit number. Do not call 9-1-1, the fire station, or the regular dispatch number. You do not need to go to the fire station.
Each permit is only good for one day, as burning may be suspended from time to time due to weather, holidays, or Fire Department concerns. Permits will not be available on Easter Sunday.
You must have adequate means to put the fire out (sufficient help, shovels, and water) and the fire can be no closer than 75 feet from any structure. Local or State Fire officials may stop by to inspect the fire and make sure you have obtained a permit.
We ask that everyone exercise common sense when burning brush and treat fire with the respect it requires, minimizing the potential for injury and property damage.

Annual Town Election: The Town Clerk reminds you that March 12th is the last to obtain nomination papers for a Town position. Papers must be returned by 5:00 pm on this same day. Positions available are on the following boards (more details from the Town Clerk): Selectmen, Moderator, Assessor, Planning Board Elementary, School Committee, TRSD School Committee, Town Clerk, Water Commission, Board of Health, Trustee for Merrick Public Library, Housing Authority, Constable, Cemetery Commissioner, and Trustee for Shade Tree Funds.

Voter Registration: The last day to register to vote in the April 30, 2013 Annual Town Election is Tuesday, April 10, 2013. On that day, you may register anytime between 9 am and 8 pm in the Town Hall, Town Clerk’s office. You can register earlier at any time during Town Clerk’s regular office hours.

Annual Town Meeting: The date has been set for Friday, June 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the Elementary School cafeteria.

Songs & Poetry of St. Patrick’s Day – Free Luncheon & Music Program for Seniors: The Elementary School will be hosting a St. Patrick’s luncheon for the Seniors on March 13th at 1:30 pm. Doors will be open at 1:00 pm. Please call 508-867-8774 to reserve your place for the free luncheon and music & poetry program by the students and music department. Reservations accepted now. It is requested that you call by March 8th by no later than March 11th.

The Selectmen remind those who visit the Town Hall that the ramp on the Fire Department side of the building is always unlocked when the building is in use. The door at the end of the ramp is not heavy (unlike the front door) and is easier to use.

Other announcements and more details on the above announcements are on the Town’s website: www.brookfieldma.us and at www.mytowngovernment.org/01506.
