Proposed FY 2015 Joint CDBG Application

The Ware Board of Selectmen will conduct a Public Hearing on January 20, 2015 at 7:15 PM at the Selectmen’s meeting room, Ware Town Hall, 126 Main Street regarding a proposed joint FY2015 application by the towns of Ware and Hardwick to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development for up to $904,335 in Community Development Block Grant funds. If awarded, the Town of Ware (as lead community) will be responsible for administration of the grant program, with assistance from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. Note: in the event of inclement weather, this hearing will be postponed to January 27, 2015 at 7:15PM in the same location. 

The application will seek funds for housing rehabilitation assistance in both towns, public social services in either or both towns (expected to include, but not limited to: adult literacy, domestic violence victim advocacy, community and family health/outreach, and senior lunches), and an environmental hazards planning study of the 179 Main Street property in Hardwick. These projects were identified as priorities that are consistent with each town’s Community Development Strategy and the state’s sustainable development principles. The grant program requires that larger towns' activities be targeted in areas that are thought to have the highest need. Ware's proposed target area includes the Ware Census-Designated Place in and around the town center. As a smaller community, Hardwick maintains a town-wide target area. 

All persons with questions or comments regarding the grant application will have an opportunity to be heard. The Board of Selectmen’s meeting room at the Ware Town Hall is handicapped accessible.
