ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Winter Parking Ban: The parking ban has been reinstated for all public ways within the Town from November 15, 2012 to April 1, 2013 during the hours of 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. As in the past, there will be no parking on the streets, whether or not snow is predicted and anyone in violation of parking on the street will receive a citation of $15.00 for the first offense.

Second Chance: Due to the extension given for applying for a Hazardous Mitigation Grant, the Highway is still accepting letters of support for two major problem drainage areas: Mill Street and Long Hill Road. If you live on or near either of these roads and/or you ever travel them, could you please write a short letter to support the grant application which is for funding? This funding, if received would fix the drainage issues on these two roads and avoid having to close the roads at time of flooding. Send your letter of support to either the Selectmen's office of the Highway Barn. Mailing address for both is 6 Central Street or use e-mail: highway@brookfieldma.us -- Thank you.

Brush Burning: Your Brookfield Fire Department announces that, starting January 15, permits for the outdoor burning of brush and forestry debris will be available. Permits will be issued until April 30. With this permit, you can only burn brush and forestry debris. The burning of leaves, tires, trash, stumps or building materials is prohibited and may result in the suspension of burning for the rest of the season or even fines. Burning is only allowed between the hours of 10am and 4pm. These regulations are set by the state and are not subject to local control.(310 CMR 7.07)

To obtain a permit call the dispatch office at 508-867-1066 between the hours of 7:30am and 12 Noon on the day you want to burn. The dispatcher will take some information and issue you a permit number. Do not call 9-1-1, the fire station, or the regular dispatch number. You do not need to go to the fire station.

Each permit is only good for one day, as burning may be suspended from time to time due to weather, holidays, or Fire Department concerns. Permits will not be available on Easter Sunday.

You must have adequate means to put the fire out (sufficient help, shovels, and water) and the fire can be no closer than 75 feet from any structure. Local or State Fire officials may stop by to inspect the fire and make sure you have obtained a permit.

We ask that everyone exercise common sense when burning brush and treat fire with the respect it requires, minimizing the potential for injury and property damage.

Legal Notice/Public Hearing: The Town of Sturbridge will be holding a public hearing at Veteran’s Memorial Hall, Town Hall, 308 Main Street in Sturbridge at 7:30 pm. The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the proposed FY 2013 regional Community Development Fund application to the Massachusetts Department of Housing & Community Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program. The town of Sturbridge will be serving as the lead community in a joint application with the town of Brookfield. The subject of the grant application is Sturbridge-Brookfield FY 2013 Community Development Fund II application for up to $900,000 to assist in the funding of a package treatment facility at the Sturbridge Retirement Cooperative Corporation (SRCC); to fund engineering plans for infrastructure improvements to Draper, High, Hayden and Hyde Streets in Brookfield; and housing rehabilitation for residents of the SRCC and town of Brookfield. The public is encouraged to attend.
