Shellfish Advisory Committee Agenda for Wednesday, September 19, 2012 to be held at 4:30 in the large conference room at the Chatham Community Center:
1. Approve minutes from July and August meetings.
2. Tern Island Update
Mark Faherty and Mike Sprague from Wellfleet Bay Audubon will present what they have learned this summer from shellfish spat collection experiments around Tern Island.
3. Propagation Update
Rachel Hutchinson will discuss methods and results from this season’s propagation program.
4. Scallop Season opening
Discussion over a possible early opening of 2012 scallop season.
5. Shellfish Suspension Policy
a. Discussion of current policy
i. Violation verification
ii. Complaints may be filed with Shellfish Constable
iii. Other suspension policy considerations
b. Proposed regulation change to:
1st violation: warning
2nd violation: 7 day suspension
3rd violation: 28 day suspension
4th and future violations: 1 year suspension
6. ARC Comments
Discussion of letter sent to the Chatham Selectmen by Richard Watts, from “Save our Beach”.
7. Harbormaster realignment decision
a. Waterways deliberation resulted in a motion to disagree with the Town Manager Jill Goldsmith’s decision to change the jurisdiction of the Harbormaster Department from the Fire Department to the Police Department.
b. Discussion of the Harbormaster Department realignment and SAC position letter to be sent to the Selectmen.
8. Any other issues that committee members may want to discuss briefly may do so here; however, no vote may be taken on these issues at this time. Any issues to be voted on must be published in a future meeting agenda and posted for public assay prior to that SAC meeting.
9. Select next meeting date.
