Agenda for the Shellfish Advisory Committee meeting to be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 in the club room at the Chatham Community Center at 4:10 PM (so Amanda can get there from work):

1.	Review minutes.
2.	State ethics training course reminder.
The course is mandatory for all members of boards and committees and must be completed by April 5, 2013.
There are three options to complete the required training.
There will be two in-house sessions presented by Town Counsel on Monday, January 28th from 2:30 – 4:30 or 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
The third option is to take the training online. If committee members take the online version be sure to print the course completion certificate and provide Bob Duncanson with a copy.
3.	Razor clam discussion.
Concerns have been raised over the harvesting method of salting being conducted within the intertidal zone.
4.	Sea Scallop inclusion in local regulations.
Apparently there is a stock of sea scallops in Chatham Harbor. They are not a natural set as their habitat is deep, off-shore waters and could only have arrived by the “culling” of scallops by the off-shore boats. Out-of-town harvesters have been diving on this stock for quite a while undetected…until this week. Renee attempted to stop them from harvesting shellfish in Chatham waters, but they found a “loop-hole” in the regulations:
Though we manage scallops in Town waters, scallops, as defined in our regulations are Aequipecten irradians, or bay scallops…not sea scallops, Pecten Magellanicus. In order to have jurisdiction over this species, in our local regulations we must list sea scallops in Section 101. Authority as well as define sea scallops in Section 104. Definitions as: “Sea scallop”, a marine mollusk of the species Pecten magellanicus, commonly known as deep water scallop.”
5.	Eider deterrent update.
6.	Any other issues that committee members may want to discuss briefly may do so here; however, no vote may be taken on these issues at this time. Any issues to be voted on must be published in a future meeting agenda and posted for public assay prior to that SAC meeting.
7.	Set next meeting date.
8.	Adjourn.
