March 2013 EMS April 2013 Custodian April 2013 ANNOUNCEMENTS: Treasurer Search Committee: Four at-large citizens are needed to serve on a Treasurer Search Committee. The citizens should have backgrounds in municipal finance, accounting, data processing, banking, aw or other similar fields. Please submit a letter of interest to the Town Moderator. Heritage Day: will be held Saturday, May 4, at noon on the Brookfield Common during the Massachusetts 15 Infantry Encampment and is a celebration to mark National Historic Preservation Month. The day’s encampment will include a food booth from members from the Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish. The award and event are made possible through funding from the Brookfield Community Club and the Brookfield Cultural Council. Ceremony to honor William “Bill” Knight will be held on the Brookfield Town Common Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. Appointments; May and June are the time that the Selectmen traditionally make the appointments for the coming fiscal year. If you want to be appointed (or re-appointed) to a committee or board, please let the Selectmen’s office know. If you do not want to be re-appointed, please also let the Selectmen’s office know. Memorial Day Ceremony: Mark your calendars for the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday May 27th. The parade will commence at the Elementary School, march to the cemetery for a ceremony at10:30 and back to the Town Common for another ceremony at 11:30 am. The parade is sponsored by the Cultural Council and is in memory of veterans of all wars. Brookfield Ecumenical Food Pantry: is always looking for your help in the form of cash or donations. Please contact either Louise Woodard at 508-867-3891 or Pauline Walker at 508-867-2281 to help your neighbors. The Food Pantry is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Clowning for Kidz Foundation Annual Poker Run and Family Fun Day Saturday, Aug. 18at St. Stan’s Polish Club, 144 South St. in West Warren. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee. Poker run is $20 per person; $200 for first place $100 for second and $50 for third. To get tickets in advance, contact Scot Mansfield at 413-896-2404. The Brookfield Historical Commission has elected to establish an annual award to promote and reward those people, companies or organizations that preserve and secure the historical style and significance of their building, landscape or cultural resource through preservation, renovation, or period sensitive new construction. This year’s award goes to Kermit and Jeanne Eaton for their tireless efforts in the conservation and preservation of landscape and buildings of The Oliver Crosby Homestead, one of the oldest homes in Brookfield. Their work on preserving this cultural heritage brings a true “sense of place” to our town.
