The Finance Committee will be joined at 7pm by the Board of Selectmen, Pam Beaudoin and Avi Urbas from the School District Administration, and members of the School Committee for a discussion of the long-term trends with the District budget.
5. Brief summary on the broader financial picture for the Town of Essex, and an illustration of why the school budget matters to the residents of Essex over the long term. (Buttrick)
6. Discussion of the 6-year trends in enrollment, FTEs, SPED resources, annual budget and resulting metrics (cost/student, students/teacher, etc.) and implications for forward longer-term budget expectations (All)
• Defining of “level services”
• SPED student composition over time and any changes in SPED classification
• Comparison cost of In-District SPED versus Out-of-District SPED (per student).
• Understanding of reserves over time and how the reserve balances roll relative to E&D
• Availability of actual results YTD (12/31/21) to inform budgeting
